Business/personal travel expenses splitting demo

The business/personal travel expenses splitting problem

Consider you leave the house to go to a business meeting, then you go to the grocery store to get some groceries for home, and finally you go to pick up your kid from school before going back to your house. Assume the total travel cost is 130$ including fuel cost, your travel time, vehicle related costs ... etc. The question is: how much of the total travel cost should you declare as business expenses? If you want to calculate the business and personal portions of your travel cost, slice-of-cost is there for you.

How to split business/personal travel expenses

Slice-of-Cost helps you calculate the business and personal portions of your travel cost. Place the Origin marker at you house location, then place stop location S1 at the meeting location, a stop location S2 at location of the grocery store, and a stop location S3 at the location of your kid's school, as shown on the map below, and then click split.

Slice-of-Cost will split the travel cost between your stop locations and results will be shown on the location markers. The percentage of the travel cost for location S1 is 35.38%; therefore, the travel cost at S1 is 130$ * 0.3538 = 45.9940$. Similarly, the travel cost at S2 is 130$ * 0.3041 = 39.5330$, and at S3 is 130$ * 0.341 = 44.3300$.
