Have you ever shared a taxi with friends, let's call them Jill and Joe, to take you from the shopping-mall back to your houses, but you also wanted to split the taxi fare between you and those friends in a fair way? You know that Jill lives far, and splitting the total taxi fare evenly means you will pay more than your fair share.
Also, you and Joe live close to each other, and Jill lives far from you; therefore, splitting the fare evenly between all of you is not fair since you and Joe effectively live at the same location. If you want an objective way to split the taxi fare, slice-of-cost is there for you.
Slice-of-Cost will split the cost between you and your friends in a fair way. Place the Origin marker at the shopping-mall, place stop locations S1 at your house, S2 at Jill's house, and S3 at Joe's house, as shown on the map below, uncheck the "Use end point" checkbox, and then click split.
Slice-of-Cost will split the Taxi cost between your stop locations and results will be shown on the location markers. Assume the total taxi fare is 120$. The percentage of the travel cost for location S1 is 35.38%; therefore, your share of the taxi fare is 120$ * 0.3538 = 42.4560$. Similary, Jill's share of the taxi fare is 120$ * 0.3051 = 36.6120$, and Joe's share of the taxi fare is 120$ * 0.341 = 40.92$.
